On This Day
Bumpass Hell, a hydrothermal area in Lassen Volcanic National Park, might just have the very best place name in the national parks system. Here’s a short video from our last visit, OTD in 2022.
A few shots of Denali, “The Great One,” from our visit OTD six years ago. We were very fortunate to have clear views nearly the entire day.

We visited the Tule Lake Segregation Center OTD in 2022, one of the WWII Japanese Internment Camps. A few weeks ago while camping near Flagstaff, we visited the remains of Camp Leupp on the Navajo Res, which was a temporary holding camp for Manzanar “riot” internees being transferred to Tule Lake.

In-flight entertainment.

A few shots from our boat tour in Aialik Bay in Kenai Fjords National Park, OTD in 2018.

OTD in 2018, I hiked to Exit Glacier, my first experience with a glacier. It’s iconic for the signs showing the previous extent of the glacier in various years, clearly demonstrating how quickly the ice has receded.

I was finally able to mark Stonehenge off my list #OnThisDay seven years ago when I passed thru suburban Utah.

Here’s a different perspective of Arch Rock on Mackinac Island. #OnThisDay in 2021

It doesn’t look like much, but this markerβlocated in a headwater swamp in Arkansas, of all placesβpreserves the initial point from which all surveys of property acquired from the Louisiana Purchase originated.
We visited it OTD in 2008 on a whim; I really need to write more about that experience.
One of my favorite roadtrip apps is Roadside America, which lists weird roadside attractions. An earlier version of the app included a fun feature: a fake “call” set by a timer to help give you an excuse to leave an awkward or excessively long conversation at an attraction, which I used OTD in 2012.
I don’t believe you. #OTD 2008
