Hoping to make a quick stop to show my dad Coal Mine Canyon on Friday. We’ll be driving back from a week spent touring eastern Utah, including Arches, Canyonlands, and the Bears Ears area. Hoping it’ll make for a great “final stop” to top off a memorable roadtrip.
I’m looking forward to tonight’s full moon kayaking trip down the Lower Salt River. There’s something fun about donning some glowsticks and paddling down the river illuminated by the light of the full moon and the glow of metro Phoenix.
I stumbled upon this pretty little scene during an impromptu daytrip through the Bradshaw Mountains a couple years ago. I had seen the highway signs for Horsethief Basin but hadn’t ever been, so I decided to chug on up the mountain and see what it was like. I was pleasantly surprised by this gorgeous little lake.
The desert is often full of color, like here at Artist Palette in Death Valley National Park.

The Great Hunt petroglyph panel is one of approximately 1,000 you can find in Utah’s famed Nine Mile Canyon, dubbed by some as “the world’s longest art gallery.”
Fire restrictions are going into effect across most of Arizona’s public lands this week. That means no campfires, no smoking, and only parking on bare ground when camping outside developed campgrounds.
Follow the rules, report those who aren’t. Let’s not lose any of our amazing places to preventable fires.
In two weeks, I’m bringing my dad (and his girlfriend) on a road trip through eastern Utah for his 83rd birthday. He’s never been to places like Arches or Canyonlands or Bears Ears. Can’t wait to show him around some of the places I love.

It wasn’t until my fourth time in Death Valley National Park that I finally got a chance to drive Titus Canyonβa scenic drive that’s well worth your time.
Dreaming of Aravaipa… An ill-timed stomach bug prevented me from my planned adventures this weekend, a two-night backpacking trip through the Aravaipa Canyon Wilderness with a group of friends. It’s been a couple years since I’ve backpacked thereβone of my favorite places in a state full of amazing destinationsβso I’ll have to shoot for a fall permit for a raincheck trip.
No matter where you look, there’s almost always some fun adventure to be had. This “slot” canyon is located just outside Lake Havasu City in SARA Park.
Dreaming of my first trip to Olympic National Park today (probably because of @mjames126’s weekend jaunt). The first time I stepped out of the car at Hurricane Ridge, I was treated to the scene above, which seemed more like a postcard than a real place. This quick snapshot doesn’t do it justice, but it’s always the first photo I look for when I want to be reminded of that “first time” feeling.
Currently plotting a return trip through the San Juans.
One of the big highlights of last summer’s PNW trip was finally getting to North Cascades National Park.
This is a pleasant little walk to Florida’s highest point…a whopping 345 feet above sea level.
